Has anyone had any luck running KODI 17 on the board? It seems that KODI 17 wont run on this version of Android.
All my other devices run KODI 17 and I use a MYSQL database so I would need the same version here in order to have it connected to my library.
The final release of KODI 17 is not too far off (it's at RC1 now) so this is likely to become an issue for other people in the near future too.

Unfortunately we cannot support a later Android version, unless the chip vendor does so. So far the message from them is that Android 4.4 is the latest supported version.

So we allready got a player that is outdated? As has happened to every manufacturer who has tried working with Mstar for motherboards, where they basically have to abandon the product right after release. In both the cases I was involved with, the Set Top Box manufacturer changed to a different chip vendor with the next product due to terrible and outdated support from Mstar. I even noted my concerns about this in March on Kickstarted (Sorry, seems no logical way to post a real Kickstarter comment link on this forum, it either mangles it to totally ignores it) https:// www.kickstarter. com/projects/928812975/rho-board/comments?cursor=12679968#comment-12679967 (remove spaces) Sigh, looks this will end up another useless box unless Futarq really does have a better relationship with MStar than any other manufacturer so far.. I really do hope so.

Today is the official release date of KODI 17 Final - which we can't install on the Rhoboard due to Android 4.4
Any news on new firmware or an open / unlocked bootloader?

Yes, Kodi's decision to drop Kitkat is a bummer. Unfortunately there's still no signs of an "official" newer Android release for the Rho Board's chip, so we're investigating if we can port ourselves or what the options are.

Yea, would be great to have an update.
I've put my Rhoboard away in the cupboard for now as my new home cinema automation project is based around KODI 17.
Had hoped to use the Rhoboard, making use of the IO pins but had to go with the RPi3 instead as there has been no news on new firmware and I don't want to put effort into something that is outdated.

Mine Rhoboard is also put away., its a shame, but its useless and there is just no news anymore.... It does seem there has been little in the way of updates or news from the creators. Unfortunate it's looking more and more like this project is not going anywhere and is slowly dying. Sadly that's the fate of every other hardware project that uses MStar chipsets I have been involved in.
